A very warm welcome to all senior players from John Dixon, your seniors captain for 2024. I feel honoured to be your captain this year and look forward to a happy and successful year for the seniors section. I hope to meet as many seniors, particularly new members, as possible and encourage everyone to take a full part in club activities.
The Seniors section is a large and thriving part of the club and is open to all members who have reached the age of 55 on payment of a £5.00 subscription.
There are regular seniors competitions on Mondays throughout the year in all formats including medals, Stablefords, and various team games. There are also knockout competitions played throughout the season. Many of these competitions are played for cups awarded at the annual Christmas lunch, and your name inscribed on the trophy and on the boards.
There are roll ups every week day and these are an excellent way for new members to meet others and get involved in the club, both playing with different players and setting the world to rights in the club house afterwards.
There is an extensive programme of seniors home and away matches against a large number of local clubs. Golfers of all standards are encouraged to play these matches and enjoy meeting players from other clubs and playing on other courses with different golfing challenges. The club also enters teams into 2 county competitions, the Seniors Scratch KO competition and the Somerset Bowl.
I am very lucky to have a very good and hard working seniors committee, to whom we all owe a vote of thanks for keeping the section functioning smoothly.
My charity this year is going to be Key Steps Weston, who are a local charity working to help the homeless in Weston find accommodation. Please help me raise as much money as we can for this very good and local group, helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
With best wishes for an enjoyable year’s golf at this fantastic club.
