Ladies Section

For the first time in 130 years, our Ladies section is without either a Ladies Captain or a Lady Vice Captain. To some, this situation might be a downside but I think our present situation is a blessing in disguise. I discovered that, on first realising our current situation, several of our members outside committee offered their help and support to the ladies section and the club as a whole.  I realized then that our lady members care for their section and the club.

This year, the ladies committee is working very hard in running our section with the help of those non-committee members who volunteered their time and energy to help.

We will have the same number of competitions throughout the year, with the exception of Lady Captain’s Day and Lady Captain’s Away Day.  We are hoping that we will have these back next year.

I am very pleased to say, that our ladies section has acquired three full new lady members from another club. My wish is for the ladies section to keep growing, and it is!.

Despite being a small section, we are actively involved in the Bristol and District Alliance league This year, we have been promoted from second division to first division.  We don’t do too badly, either, in the scratch and handicap foursomes.  In previous years we have won the scratch foursomes, and come a close second in both scratch and handicap foursomes.

We are actively involved in County events and Competitions. Two of our lady members have held the post of Somerset Ladies President in the past and still take a keen interest in county matters.  And one of our members (a very talented young lady of whom we are very proud!) plays regularly for the County first team.

To me, this is more than enough to feel proud of our ladies.

In conclusion I believe that Weston-s-Mare Golf Club ladies are some of the friendliest human beings you can ever meet. Why not come along on a Tuesday, our Ladies Day, and meet some of us? You’ll get a warm welcome!

Seniors Section

Weston-Super-Mare Golf Club prides itself on having a thriving, very friendly senior section and welcomes members of the club over the age of 55 to join its ranks for an extremely modest additional annual subscription of £5.

This all year round links course is a good test for all golfers and is frequently made trickier by coastal breezes. The greens are quick and true and a pleasure to putt on.

Our normal season includes a competition on most Mondays throughout the year (not bank holidays) as well as two knockouts and an individual open and a mixed open.

For our Monday competitions online entries can be made up to three weeks prior to the day and for other general tee times, two weeks in advance so there is every opportunity to sign up online and join a group for a friendly or competitive round.

There is a comprehensive diary of 36 inter club matches as well as in house duels against the Club’s First Team, the Ladies and the Juniors. In addition, the section enters two SGU county competitions, the Seniors Scratch Knockout and the Seniors Somerset Bowl.

The season is rounded off with a very enjoyable Christmas Lunch and annual prize giving which is the highlight of the year and not to be missed!

For all new members of the club the Wednesday morning chairman’s roll up is another excellent way to get involved. Players meet in the clubhouse from 10.15, with the draw made at 10.45 and first tee time of 11.00, no need to book a tee time.

The Seniors Section is looking forward to the year ahead when we will enjoy the friendly banter and camaraderie that is always associated with ‘Seniors’ golf.

I hope you enjoy the course and play well!
